Essential oil Clary Sage is extracted using steam distillation from the flowering tops and leaves, and its colour should look clear to a pale yellow.

Clary sage is considered excellent as an antidepressant and as a relaxant for panic and nervous anxiety.

Nervous exhaustion – Place 3 drops into the bath and relax as much as possible. Alternatively, use in an oil burner and this oil can also be used in a roll on that can be placed onto pulse points like a perfume.

Essential oil clary sage is dangerous for use in pregnancy by an amateur aromatherapist.  There is evidence in research that shows clary sage can help to induce labour, making it unsafe to both mother and baby.  Rather, oils for relaxation should be used at home instead in the hope that it will trigger labour.  If considering using the essential oil clary sage during pregnancy, please consult a properly qualified aromatherapist. There are links to many organisations within the complementary health directory.

Caution – Do not use Clary Sage whilst drinking alcohol or when pregnant.

Fun Fact: Clary Sage is used as a flavouring in tobacco!
