Essential oil Bergamot (Citrus aurantium)
Essential oil Bergamot (Cirtus aurantium) has antiseptic properties and its application is often in skincare for ailments such as acne and psorasis. However it is also especially good for insomnia/nervous anxiety, and can help with allieviating some symptoms of depression hence making this an excellent oil for stress relief! This oil is extracted from the peel of the fruit which is a type of orange that is not suitable for eating or turning into orange juice.
Insomnia/nervous anxiety – a great way is simply to put a few drops into a warm bath or put a few oils into your oil burner and relax.
Depression – put a few drops on a hanky that you keep close to your body which means that the body heat will allow the oil to vaporise giving you a lovely scent at all times. Again, it can be used in your oil burner, or a few drops placed into an inhaler, or used with a carrier oil into a roll on that can be used on the pulse points like a perfume.
Cautions – Never substitute bergamot in place of any antidepressant medication that you may be taking. Bergamot oil should not be placed neat on the skin or used in sunlight as it may cause a reaction, and lead to sunburn.
Fun Fact: The much loved Earl Grey tea actually is bergamot tea!
